Officers are covered by the Federal Way Police Officers Guild.  Membership is a encouraged within 30 days of employment.

Officers have 5 steps of pay.  Where you start will depend on your experience (Lateral Only)

$20,000 will be paid in three installments;  

1. Upon Meeting requirements for Equivalency Academy (Medical clearance and Firearms Qualification) $5,000

2. Passing 6 month probation $5,000

3. 1 year anniversary $10,000

$3,000 Hiring incentive

for entry level applicants

$3,000 will be paid in two equal

 installments of $1,500;  

1. After successfully passing the first written exam at the Basic Law Enforcement Academy

2. After completing 12-month probation which begins at graduation from BLEA.


Other contributors to base pay:

* Career Development (up to) 10.25% additional (after 5 years of qualifying Law Enforcement Experience)

* $200 yearly uniform allowance

* AA Degree 2%

* Bachelor’s Degree 4%

City Residency 1% (includes potential annexation area)

* Take Home Cars being implemented (within 30 miles driving from city hall)

* On Call Pay 3% (Detectives, SWAT, MAIT, Total Station, K9)

* FTO Pay 7% (with Student)

* Out of Class 7% (hours spent)

New employees that are hired in 2022 will be eligible for a $416 monthly bonus that will be paid as a lump sum on Jan of 2023 AND 2024.
